Chips
Chips are a common temptation for many people. However, if you indulge in this tempting snack too often, it could risk your health. The New England Journal of Medicine published research that found potato chips are now the leading cause of the obesity epidemic. Although acrylamide is tasteless and odorless, it can cause many health problems, including DNA damage and elevated inflammatory markers. Researchers discovered that eating acrylamide from foods could increase your risk of developing heart disease in a study published in the American Journal of Nutrition.
Scientists also found that eating chips twice a week can increase your chance of dying. Over eight years, 4440 people between 45 and 79 were tracked by Italian researchers. Two hundred thirty-six of these people died. After examining their potato-eating habits, they found an increased mortality risk in those who ate fried potatoes.
While it’s OK to indulge in chips from time to time, you need to cook them properly in oil that hasn’t been reheated. Reheated oil can release harmful aldehydes that have been linked to Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and heart disease.
