High fructose corn syrup is a huge no-no for your overall health. Multiple studies have shown a link between this ingredient and a variety of severe conditions such as heart disease and obesity.
High-fructose syrup can be found in many products because it is inexpensive to produce. This includes everything from soft drinks to salad dressings and cereals. High-fructose corn syrup is made from corn starch and has a sweetness level comparable to sucralose. It was introduced in 1950, but it wasn’t widely used in products until 1970 when it became an economical substitute for sugar.
This ingredient is not an excellent alternative to sugar-laden foods, but many studies have shown that it can be even worse. Princeton University researchers discovered that high fructose corn syrup caused more weight gain than sugar. High-fructose corn syrup is not a good choice. It can cause serious health problems and may even be harmful.
